Frequently Asked Questions | Halcyon Therapy Group

What is concierge therapy? How do I know if I need therapy? How many sessions will I need? Get answers to these and other popular counseling questions.

What is concierge therapy?

Concierge therapy is a fully customized service that allows you to get the help you need, exactly when you need it. This modern approach is for you if your busy lifestyle prevents you from seeking therapy in a traditional practice setting.

Your privacy is at the heart of what we do. You’ll have your therapist’s private cell so that you never have to share sensitive information with a receptionist or sit in a busy waiting room.

How do I know if I need therapy?

If you're considering therapy, you probably want to feel better, make some changes, or improve a relationship. Maybe you need help sorting through an overwhelming situation or an old problem or pattern of behavior that isn't improving. If any of these apply to you, therapy may help.

What if my problem isn’t serious enough?

Most of our clients are functioning considerably well day-to-day but may be struggling with a romantic relationship, work stress, or anger and irritability. If you’re not sure whether therapy is right for you, we’d be happy to schedule a consultation call to discuss.

What is your therapy style?

While all Halcyon services are rooted in evidence-based treatment, our psychologists tend to practice from an integrated approach in order to provide customized treatment plans to meet each individual client’s needs.

How many sessions will I need?

Some clients only need a couple of sessions to discuss a specific concern. Others may continue therapy for months. Clients with more severe psychiatric symptoms may find it beneficial to remain in treatment long term.

How long is each session?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes long but can be customized to meet your needs.

How often do sessions take place?

Typically we see clients on a weekly basis to begin, but sessions can be more or less frequent depending on your needs.

Do you use Zoom for video calls?

No, we use a HIPAA compliant video platform, or we can speak on the phone if you prefer. Using a HIPAA compliant platform guarantees a higher level of security and confidentiality.

What happens during a session?

During the first session, we’ll spend time getting to know each other. You’ll talk about what’s brought you to therapy and we’ll answer any questions you have about the process.

In subsequent sessions, there will be some variation depending on the presenting problem and the style of your therapist but you'll talk about your thoughts and feelings and do some problem-solving.

I'm worried I won’t know what to talk about.

It’s normal - expected really - to feel nervous or scared about therapy. Anything new can be anxiety-provoking. We know you feel nervous and we’ll do everything we can to make you feel more comfortable.

I’ve had therapy before but it didn’t help. Will this work for me?

We often find we’re able to help clients who didn’t experience success in the past. Schedule a consultation call with us and we can talk in more detail to see if we might be a good fit for you.

Can I pay with insurance?

We don't accept insurance but we're happy to provide you with a superbill to use any out of network benefits your insurance plan covers.

Why don’t you accept insurance?

When you use an insurance company to pay for therapy, the insurance company dictates how many sessions you have and how often you see your therapist. Using insurance to pay for treatment can also compromise your privacy by requiring certain diagnoses to authorize treatment and access to your records.

At Halcyon Therapy Group we provide a high-level service to individuals with demanding lifestyles. We understand you need to be able to arrange sessions when it suits you, and often at short notice.

Do I need to pay a retainer or membership fee?

No. You simply pay for the service you receive.

Are you LGBTQIA+ friendly?

Absolutely. Halcyon Therapy Group is LGBTQ+, polyamory and kink sensitive.

Can we meet face to face?

We love the privacy and convenience of telehealth, and we're sure you will too. As COVID-19 continues to decline we’ve found our clients don't want to come back to a physical office as they enjoy the flexibility of being able to attend sessions whether they’re at home, in the office or traveling. If you're unsure if telehealth is right for you, please call us to discuss.
